Birchwood Tourist Park
We only spent one night at this site in October so it was quiet at that time of year.
This is a large site with direct access to the forest. The walking (particularly in Oct) was superb. At the bottom of the site the footpath leads straight into this excellent nature reserve and forest. The staff were very helpful and suggested a walk through the forest to Wareham and supplied a map for the princely sum of 20p, very useful.
The site itself is a mixture of block paved hard standings and grass pitches. The pitch that we were on was so long that the trailer was able to stay on the motorhome and still fit on the paved area with ease. There was water and drainage on the one that we had.
Security on site is via a number plate recognition system controlling the barriers at both the entrance and exit. The shop in reception was small but really well stocked with both food an camping essentials.
The staff we met were both friendly and informative and seemed to be really proud of their site.
There are a couple of toilet blocks that had really god facilities within as well as a drive over motorhome point located at the far one.
I would thoroughly recommend this one to anyone who enjoys walking. It would also make a good centre for touring this beautiful part of Dorset with Dorchester, Wareham, Weymouth and The Tank Museum at Bovington all being within easy reach.
