Dunbar 12

We arrived in Dunbar not really knowing what to expect. After finding free parking at the leisure centre (great start) we had a very pleasant time.

We headed to the beach to walk the dog and spent ages picking up beach glass (a future art project for Di) the dog was happy with this as he got me throwing stones and had a great time.

After that we ventured to the harbour area. There are ruins of an old castle here and a beautiful working harbour. Keep an eye out for the buoys and fenders decorating a house that overlooks the harbour.

There are a couple of further harbours linked to the first one so don’t just walk away. Over the lifting bridge you will find further ruins of an old castle and some great coastal photo opportunities.

Dunbar is the home of the famous John Muir, a naturalist that later moved to the US. There is a statue in the High Street as well as his birthplace. Now a museum www.jmbt.org.uk

An interesting little coastal town that is well worth a visit.
