Lomond Woods Holiday Park
Just 17 miles from Glasgow and on the southern end of Loch Lomond is the small town of Balloch. Lomond Woods (as far as I could tell) is the only touring site located in this town. Within a 10-minute walk of the site entrance you can be on the water’s edge. The commercial area of Loch Lomond Shores is home to many shops, a fair ground area with kids rides and a Sea Life centre. Fromm here there are many walks along the edge of the Loch. We opted to follow the path on the Eastern shore that took us to Baloch Castle and Country Park. The path follows along the shoreline of Loch Lomond and is easily manageable for all.
Lomond Woods Holiday Park is a reasonably large site on the left as you enter town (turn by McDonalds) It has a barriered entrance and exit, decent WC facilities and a great many hard standing pitches. There ia a drive over drain for the great many motorhomes that frequent this part of the world, this can’t be said for many of the sites I visit. The hardstanding pitches vary in size and most outfits could be accommodated. We pre-booked this one and were glad of that as the sign on reception said they were full.
Just outside the site there is a gastro pub that we have all become familiar with, a Chinese restaurant and takeaway as well as the previously mentioned McDonalds.
To summarise this is a great site in a great location. Local facilities will more than suffice and the local scenery is really beautiful. Also, if you fancy the big city Glasgow centre is within half hour of here.
